WE DID IT AGAIN - for just the 2nd time in the 32yrs of the event. The Downs and South West team were undefeated during the week of matchplay at City Golf Club.
8-11th September 2014 The competition began on Monday in cool, showery and blustery conditions. The home team adapted to these typical Toowoomba conditions and benefited from local knowledge of the well presented golf course to take an early lead by defeating Far North Qld and halving matches with last year’s winner, Brisbane and District. Success continued for the following days of competition and despite having a bye on the last day, the team had an unassailable lead and went through undefeated to claim the 2014 Meg Nunn trophy. The Downs and South West Team finished with a total score of 31.5pts followed by Brisbane and District on 26. | View the embedded image gallery online at: https://www.downsladiesgolf.org.au/news/179-meg-nunn-salver#sigProId7caf0dddd0 |
The team comprised Margaret Richards (playing captain)and Cate Wilmot both from the City Club; Natalie Hollis and Carmel Macdermott from Middle Ridge Golf Club; Dana Beutel and Sharon Weatherby from Gatton Golf Club with Aliecia Freeman (City) as Manager. The caddies were a huge benefit to the team - no doubt. So thanks to Aliecia Freeman, Gabby Pamenter & Glenda Murray (City), Lyn Case (Crows Nest), Marie Cook (Millmerran) and Ron Weatherby (Gatton). Many other City members volunteered their time to caddy for visiting teams as did St George, Chinchilla, Clifton and Middle Ridge ladies and their help was acknowledged at the closing function. The 2015 Meg Nunn Salver competition will be held in Far North Qld at Cairns Golf Club.
This Inter-District Match Play Tournament has evolved to include all seven Golfing Districts throughout the state coming together to play for the Meg Nunn Salver. The venue for the event rotates through the seven districts of Far North Qld, North Qld, Central Qld, Sunshine Coast Burnett, Brisbane & District, Gold Coast District and our own Downs & South Western District. In 2014, the tournament returns to the Downs where it will be held at Toowoomba City Golf Club. The first and only time the Salver was won by our District was at Toowoomba Golf Club in 2007. Obviously, the team would love to hold the Salver high on Thursday 11th September and will be doing their utmost to bring this to fruition. |
